The last month he spent with the Dursleys was peaceful for Harry... well, peaceful is probably an overexaturation.
But for Dursleys? Oh, for them it was practically pure hell. They were now so terrified of Harry, not becuase they have the knowledge that he somehow timetraveled (they don't know that, if they did, it would just make everything worse), but because of the fact that he's a wizard. They seem to they think he could turn them into animals if he wanted. He had to suppress his joy of all this.
The funniest thing is that, Dudley didn't even want to be with him in the same room for too long, but tried his best to hide it (and failing hilariously miserably).
But all of this became very boring, very fast. So he started spending much more time in his room again. Doing pretty much the same he did the first time, although he hadn't done this on purpose, it may be said that it was automatic.
On the 31st of August Harry knew it would be for the best if he told uncle Vernon he'll need to be on the station tomorrow.
He went downstairs and into the living room where he found that all of the three Dursleys were watching some game show on TV. They hadn't noticed him yet so he loudly coughed, so they'd pay attention to him for a while.
Dudley screamed and ran out of the room, while aunt Petunia refused to look at her nephew.
"Hm - uncle Vernon?"
Uncle Vernon also hadn't bothered to look away from the TV screen, had only mumbled something.
"I'll need to get to the King's Cross station tomorrow - I'm going to Hogwarts from there."
Uncle Vernon had mumbled some more.
"Could you take me there?"
Another mumbling, but Harry noticed that his uncle faintly nodded.
"Thanks." Harry replied, and turned around, about to leave.
"Go with a train," uncle Vernon suddenly spoke, sounding as if this was funny, "what a weird way for a transportation to a wizarding school. What? Don't they have flying carpets?"
Harry hadn't spoken, he hadn't even turned around.
"Don't have your back turned on me while I speak!" Uncle Vernon ordered, sounding annoyed.
So, Harry turned around unhappily, not really trying to act, it's about half an hour after 10 p.m. and, and today was another day when they gave him a set of chores. Those chores were simple, but some of them took good two hours to do and forced him to put a lot of will into it. So he's been exhausted for a few days.
They gave him a break (out of fear) when it comes to chores, after Hagrid came. But they stopped a while ago.
"Do you even know where that school of yours is?" Uncle Vernon asked.
"Hm - not really. Somewhere in Scotland? I think." Harry replied, acting like an exhausted adult.
"Hah," uncle Vernon let out a laugh, "you want to go to a school, and you don't even know where it is!"
Harry just gave him an unamused look.
"When are you supposed to be there?" It seems like uncle Vernon hadn't noticed Harry's demeanor.
"The train leaves at eleven, from the platform nine and three quarters."
Both his aunt and uncle looked like they hadn't believed what they heard.
"What platform?"
"Nine and three quarters." Harry repeated calmly, wondering why his aunt is acting the way she is right now.
"Stop with that bullcrap!"
"What do you mean?"
"There's no such platform!"
"Yes there is!"
"And just how can you prove it?" Uncle Vernon challenged him.
Harry thought for a while and when he looked at aunt Petunia an idea came to his head.
"Because aunt Petunia knows it's true!" He said.
Aunt Petunia gasped and her face immediately went pale.
"My mom was your sister, you had to be there when she went to the platform for the first time at least!"
Aunt Petunia scowled at Harry, with a very sour face.
"And so if I was?!" Aunt Petunia said angrily, trying to act as if this hadn't shaken her a bit.
"Ugh, okay, we'll take you there, but only because we were already planning on going there." Uncle Vernon said, annoyed.
"Why?" Harry asked, trying to remember the exact reason why.
"We're taking Dudley to hospital." Uncle Vernon explained, but Harry is so exhausted he can't remember why would his cousin needs to go there. "To get rid of that damn tail before he goes to Smelting's."
Oh, right, the pig's tail Hagrid had put on him.
The next day, Harry woke up at 5:55 a.m., and still half-asleep he began to get ready. He brushed his teeth and hair, changed into muggle clothes, ate breakfast with the Dursleys.
At approximately 7 a.m. Harry's heavy luggage was already in the storage compartment of the car, and Hedwig was securely in between Harry and Dudley in the back seat.
Uncle Vernon began driving.
At 10:30 a.m. they had arrived at the King's Cross station. Uncle Vernon took out Harry's luggage and put it on a trolley he had conveniently found near their car, and put Harry's luggage on it and began pushing it. Harry had completely forgotten that this rare act of kindness had even happened back then.
But when he stopped between the platforms nine and ten his face turned into a malicious smile.
"So, you're done my dear. Platform nine, platform ten. Yours should be somewhere in the middle, but they probably hadn't done building it yet, what do you say?" Uncle Vernon almost laughed.
But Harry just sighed, he knows how to get there, of course he does. But he has to act like a scared and confused eleven year old child.
So he looked at aunt Petunia, who's face soured again as soon as she noticed that her nephew is looking at her again.
"Aunt Petunia, do you know how to get there?" He asked a question he knows the answer to already.
"And why should I tell you?!"
"All of you always wanted to get rid of me," Harry started, only now realizing he's acting like an eerie child, "so now you'll get rid of me for an entire school year."
Aunt Petunia just continued scowling at Harry, her disgusted face hiding the fear.
She sighed. At that, her husband looked at her, immediately realizing that she's going to tell him.
"Ugh." She let out, and started explaining, "so, you just go through that wall, doesn't matter if you walk or run." She said, while refusing to look at him nor the wall.
"Thank you!" Harry said, genuinely surprised. They interpret it as him being surprised that this is how you get to the platform. But in actuality, he's surprised that his aunt had actually given him this kind of instructions.
"See you at the end of this school year." Uncle Vernon said, annoyed.
"See you," Harry replied, and looked around if no other muggle was looking.
Then he started running towards the barrier and as soon as he was on the other side he slowed down.
Platform nine and three quarters was as busy as it always is at the start and end of each school year. Harry began pushing his cart, got into the train and started looking for an empty compartment.
After a while he had found one and got in. His luggage was so heavy that it fell on his foot, and he noticed a familiar ginger-haired person come to him.
"Need help?" One of the Weasley twins asked.
"Yea, please" Harry said, he completely forgot just how heavy the luggage was for him when he was eleven, either that, or he's still a bit tired.
"Hey! Fred! Come and help me!" George called out.
Fred, but he died... wait, no, he hadn't yet!
With the help from both of the twins they got his luggage onto a train and into the corner of the compartment. (Author's note: ignore that this is an inconsistency, I have no idea how to fix this sentence to sound correct T-T)
"Thanks," Harry said, moving his hair from his eyes.
"What do you have here?" Fred asked, already pointing at Harry's scar. This caught Harry off guard a bit.
"Wow," George let out, "aren't you...?"
"Aren't you Harry Potter?" Fred finished the question. Both of the twins are already in awe.
"Oh, yea, I am."
The twins just stared at him, absolutely blown away. Harry just stared at the floor, rather then looking at them, rather then looking at Fred.
For Harry's luck, mrs. Weasley called out, "Fred? George? Are you here?"
"We're going mom!" Fred called out.
The twins stole a quick glance at Harry before getting off the train and back to their mom.
Harry sat next to the window, not really paying attention to anything, overhearing the Weasleys.
"Ron, you have something on your nose."
Ron tried to get out from her grasp, but failed and she started rubbing his nose.
"Mom - stop." He whined
"Well, well, our Ronnie has dirt on his nose." George mocked Ron.
"Shut up!"
"Where's Percy?" Mrs. Weasley asked.
"He's coming."
Although Harry's mind was traveling elsewhere, he was glad he can hear the Weasleys, this works as a small distraction from his memories.
"I have to hurry mom, I'm sitting at the very front, prefects have there two compartments reserved." Percy explained.
"Oh, and aren't you a prefect, Percy?" Fred asked, "why didn't you tell us, we didn't know you received such an honour, to look over other students..."
"Hold up," George continued on, "I think I remember that he told us something about this... I think once..."
"Or twice..."
"A minute..."
"The whole summer..."
"Stop with it!" Percy scolded them.
"Why else would he have a new habit?" Fred noted.
"Becuase he's a prefect," their mom said, "Alright, honey, good luck - when you arrive, send us an owl." She told Percy.
"And you two," she began talking to the twins, "try to be normal this year. If I get another owl about that you blew up a toilet seat into the air..."
"Us, and blow up a toilet? We never did that before."
"Anyway, an awesome idea mom, thanks!"
"That's not even funny! And look over Ron."
"Don't worry your Ronnie is safe with us." Fred said, reassuringly, but the grin is audible.
"Shut up." Ron said, annoyed by them.
"Oh, and mom?" Fred begun, "Guess who we saw in the train?"
"Who?" She asked.
"Harry Potter!"
And there it is, the possible reason why the rumor about him going to Hogwarts had even started.
"Oh, mommy!" Ginny shrieked excited, "can I go look at him? Mom, please..."
Harry completely forgot how much Ginny used to fangirl over him.
"No, Ginny. He's not an animal at the zoo." Mrs. Weasley told her, and then looked at the twins, "really, Fred? How do you know that?"
"I asked him." He explained, "and I saw his scar too. He really has it - it looks like a lightning bolt!"
"Poor boy..." she exhaled.
"Do you think he remembers how You-Know-Who looked like-?" George asked, but shut up as soon as he saw the look on his mother's face.
"Don't you dare ask him that, George. Don't you dare. He doesn't need to recall something so horrible immediately the first day of a school year."
"Okay, don't be angry."
Suddenly, a whistle.
"Hurry!"
The twins and Ron got onto the train. Ten year old Ginny started crying. They leaned from the window and waved to their mom.
"Don't cry, Ginny, we'll send you a bunch of owls."
"Yea, and we'll send you a toilet bowl from Hogwarts too!"
"George!"
"I'm just kidding mom."
The train began to move. Mrs. Weasley and Ginny began to wave to them and Ginny, who was both laughing and crying, started running next to the train, but as soon as it picked up on speed, she stopped and just waved to them.
When the train took a turn, the platform had disappeared and what could only be seen are the muggle houses.
After a short while, the door to the compartment had opened.
When Harry looked at the person who was in the door, he immediately recognized eleven-year old Ron.
"Is someone sitting here?" Ron asked, pointing at the seat infront of Harry, "everywhere else is full."
Harry shaked his head, and Ron immediately sat down.
"Anyway, my name's Ron, what's yours?" Ron introduced himself kindly.
"Oh, I'm Harry."
"Really? So are you-?"
Suddenly the door to the compartment opened again, the twins walked in.
"Hey, Ron!" George started.
"Listen," Fred continued, "we're going to the middle of the train - Lee Jordan has a huge tarantula."
"Alright," Ron mumbled. Harry knows he has a huge fear of spiders.
"Harry," George, said, "I think we haven't introduced ourselves. George and Fred Weasley. And this is Ron, our brother. See you soon, bye!"
"Bye," Harry and Ron said.
And then the twins left.
"So are you really Harry Potter?" Ron blurted out.
Harry nodded.
"Y'know, at first I thought that it was just one of Fred And George's jokes," Ron explained, "and do you really have - you know..." he pointed at Harry's forehead.
Harry just shoved his hair a little off, to reveal his scar. He doesn't like when people just stare at his scar, and after a short while, Ron seemed to notice that.
"Sorry," Ron apologized.
"It's okay-!" Harry started, he never likes it much when he makes people uncomfortable or feel sorry.
"Did You-Know-Who do that to you?"
"Yea," Harry said, looking out of the window, but still trying to remain in a friendly mood and conversation.
"And do you remember it?"
Harry flinched a little, but recovered a mere second later, "remember what?" He looked at Ron, looking like a child.
"Y'know... the night he gave you the scar..."
"Oh... I-" then he remembered he's not supposed to have that memory yet, "no... only remember a green light, nothing else..."
"Really?"
"Yea..."
"Woow," Ron said, sounding genuinely amused, despite everything.
They ended up changing topic immediately, their new topic ended up being family.
"I think in my family everyone's a wizard," Ron explained, "well, I think that my mom's cousin from the second knee is just a basic official - but we don't really talk about him at home."
"I heard you grew up with muggles," Ron said, " how are they?"
"Terrible," Harry said, and by the surprised look on Ron's face he added, "well, not all of them, just the Dursley's."
"Really?"
"Yea."
And they continued talking. They talked about Ron's family, about the muggle and wizarding world, and much more.
Harry had completely forgotten about one certain person, but was immediately reminded of him, but was forced to hide the knowledge.
"His name is Scabbers," Ron explained, as soon as he noticed that Harry noticed the rat. "he's practically useless, because he always just sleeps. Percy got an owl from dad, because he became a prefect, they can't afford..." Harry immediately felt sympathy for Ron, "so I got Scabbers."
He saw that Ron's ears reddened, as if he said too much and is now embarrassed.
He doesn't want Ron to feel that way, so he tried his best to comfort him; so he told him about how he 'first' met Hagrid only a month ago.
The topics changed a lot throughout the ride.
Around twelve o'clock they heard a knock on the door and then it was opened by a smiling woman and asked them, "would you like something, kids?" She asked kindly.
Harry immediately got up, only remembering now just how hungry he is. Sure, he ate breakfast but it was just the smallest piece of bread with butter that was far from enough to fill him up. But Ron reddened. He knows that the Weasley's aren't exactly wealthy, so he just automatically bought the same as he did the last time, a few from each one.
"You must be really hungry." Ron said, with wide eyes.
"I'm starving," he said and bit into the Pumpkin Pasty.
Ron took out breads that his mom made for him, "she always forgets that I don't like canned beef."
"Here I'll switch that with this with you," Harry offered a Pasty, that's why he bought so much from the trolley after all, he was planning on sharing it with Ron all along.
"You won't like it, it's really dry..." Ron immediately began defending himself, "Y'know, she hadn't had much time, she has five of us."
"Just take it," Harry insisted, his eyes clearly saying that he's not going to stop.
Ron exchanged the bread with the Pasty.
Very quickly they forgot about the bread, as they began eating other candies, pasties and desserts. Harry truly felt like a kid in this moment, again.
Harry took a Chocolate Frog and opened it, and of course, just like last time, he got Dumbledore.
"Who do you have? I am missing Agrippa." Ron asked.
"Dumbledore,"
"Oh," Ron sighed, and took one of the Chocolate Frogs, "can I have one?"
Harry nodded.
"Y'know, you can collect them," and then Ron sighed, indicating that he already has the card he's just got.
Harry turned the card he's holding around, even after everything he still respects Dumbledore.
***ALBUS DUMBLEDORE ***
***CURRENTLY PRINCIPAL OF HOGWARTS ***
A lot consider him to be the most important wizard of modern times, he got famous because in the year 1945 he defeated an evil wizard Grindelwald, described twelve ways of using dragon blood and with his colleague Nicolas Flamel, came to the conclusion of multiple discoveries in alchemy. Professor Dumbledore likes chamber music and bowling.
When he turned the card back around, Dumbledore was gone. As gone as he was a lot of times in Harry's original life when he was still alive.
Harry noticed that Ron stole a glance towards the wrapped Frogs.
"Take as much as you want," Harry offered.
"Really?"
"Yea, why else would I have bought so much from the trolley?" He unintentionally said, but he didn't take it back.
Ron just smiled at Harry and took a bunch of Chocolate Frogs.
The time passed by. As both of them opened the Chocolate Frogs Harry also got: Morgana, Hengist from Woodcroft, Cliodna.
Soon Harry opened the Beans Of Every Flavor, and Ron immediately warned him about them, that they truly contain every flavour, from tasty to outright disgusting.
After a while they heard another knock, and this time it was young Neville. He seemed like he was crying.
"Excuse me, haven't you seen my toad?"
Both Ron and Harry shook their heads, and Neville started crying again, "I lost him again! I always lose him!"
"You'll find him soon, don't worry," Harry tried to comfort Neville.
"Yea... but if you'll see him," Neville said sadly and then left.
"I don't get why it took him so much," Ron wondered, "if I had a toad I'd try to get rid of it as soon as possible. But I should stay quiet when it comes to Scabbers..." Ron said.
Harry tried his best to look at anything but Scabbers. He seemed like he was napping on Ron's knee. This got him wondering if he was really sleeping or just pretending to be.
"If he'd died no one would notice," Ron said disgusted, "yesterday I tried to turn him yellow, so he could be a little more interesting, but I haven't succeeded. I'll show you, look..."
Then Rom started going through his luggage for a while.
"The hair from the unicorn is already out a bit... whatever..."
Just as Ron had his wand above his head, the door to the compartment had suddenly opened.
"Haven't you seen a toad here?" She asked, and when Harry looked, he was just proven to be right, "Neville lost it." Young Hermione asked.
"We already said that we haven't," Ron answered, but Hermione wasn't listening.
"Oh, you're doing spells? I'll look at it."
She sat down, which left Ron speechless. Although Harry wasn't like that.
"Hm - well, alright."
Ron coughed.
"Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid, fat rat yellow!"
He swished with his wand but nothing happened. Scabbers stayed the same.
"Haven't you made a mistake?" Hermione asked, the boys just looked at her, Ron confused, but Harry just seemed like: 'no, I don't think Ron has done a mistake.'
"You hadn't succeeded. I tried a few of the spells, just so I wouldn't get out of the form, and all of them worked. In my family we have no wizard and for everyone it was a huge surprise when my Hogwarts letter had arrived, but I was overjoyed of course, y'know it's the best wizarding school in the world, atleast that's what I've heard - I have all of my school books memorized - anyway, I'm Hermione Granger, and you?"
Harry had completely forgotten just how much of a know-it-all Hermione used to be.
Ron seemed amused by the fact that Hermione had said so much, and is also baffled that she had memorized all of the books.
"I'm Ron Weasley," he mumbled.
"Harry Potter," Harry said.
"Really?" Hermione immediately latched onto that excitedly, "I know everything about you! Well, atleast everything that's publicly known about you! - I've gotten some books as bonus reading, you're in Modern wizarding history, in The rise and fall of dark magic and Historical milestones in 20th century wizarding history."
"Oh, really?" Harry said unamused, he knows all this. He's famous in all of the wizarding world for something he hadn't even done. He hates being famous and the constant attention.
"Yea! If it was me I would've read everything I could find!" Hermione said, not fully understanding Harry's change in demeanor, but chose to ignore it, "do you know in which house you'll be? I asked a bunch of people and I hope I'll be in Gryffindor, I think that's the best house. I've heard that even Dumbledore himself went there, but in my opinion, Hufflepuff wouldn't be bad either... well we'll should go to find Neville's toad." Harry had completely forgotten Neville was still here, "You two should change, because we'll be there soon."
She turned sharply and both her and Neville got out.
"I don't care in which house I'll be in, just as long as she won't be there," Ron sighed and threw his wand back into luggage, "stupid spell! George told me about it, I bet that he was just making fun of me."
"Maybe he wasn't..." Harry thought. Because he knows Scabbers isn't actually a rat, he's a grown man who's name is Peter Pettigrew.
"My whole family went to Gryffindor," Ron started, unintentionally breaking Harry out of his thoughts, "I have no idea how they'll react if I don't go there. Hufflepuff could be fine, but just imagine what would happen if they put me to Slytherin."
"Yea, I don't want to go to Slytherin either." Harry agreed, hating the fact that it's highly possible for him to go to Slytherin, and it's all because of Voldemort...
As the ride went on they had talked about Ron's siblings who have already graduated, as well as about the break-in to the vault sevenhundred and thirteen. They talked about Quidditch and much more.
But they had stopped as soon as the door to the compartment had opened once again, but this time it wasn't Hermione nor Neville. It was Draco Malfoy, with Crabbe and Goyle.
"Is it true? That Harry Potter is in this train?" Draco looked at Harry, sounding like he's trying to be friendly, "is it you?"
"Yea," Harry replied.
"This is Crabbe," Draco gestured towards said boy, "and this is Goyle," he gestured to the other, "and I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."
Harry just stared blankly. Suddenly, Ron faintly coughed, as if holding back laughter. Malfoy stared at him.
"Do you think my name's funny? A person doesn't have to ask you, who you are." Harry immediately remembered where Malfoy is going with this, so he started trying his best to act like an oblivious eleven year old, "Father told me that all of the Weasleys have red eyes, freckles and more children then they can afford."
Then he turned to Harry, who is staring almost eerily blankly, holding back his protective anger, "soon you'll realize which wizarding families are better then the others, Potter." Malfoy doesn't seem like he noticed anything, "You shouldn't befriend the wrong sort. In that I'll be glad to help."
He offered Harry his hand, but Harry hadn't accepted it.
"Okay, thanks for showing me so far, why you're the wrong one to befriend." Harry looked Malfoy dead in the eyes, too unconsciously tired to care.
Malfoy hadn't reddened, but his cheeks had gotten a pinkier shade.
"In your place I'd be caruful, Potter," he threatened slowly, "if you won't be more polite, you'll end up just like your dead parents, they also didn't know what's good for them and what's not. Being with the Weasleys and Hagrid? That'll show, mark my words."
Harry hadn't moved a muscle, not caring about a single word Malfoy said about him, but as soon as he saw Ron stand up he did too.
"Say that again," Ron challenged him, red in face.
"Ooh, what? Are you gonna fight me?" Malfoy asked in obvious mock fear.
"if you don't get out this instant, probably," Harry threatened.
"But we don't want to leave, do we boys? We already ate everything and you still have so much left here." Malfoy said.
Goyle immediately reached out for the Chocolate Frogs next to Ron's seat. Ron immediately jumped up, but before he could touch him, he let out a terrible sound.
When they looked, they saw Scabbers on his finger. Only now had he thought about something he hadn't expected to think about for the first time... was Scabbers, Wormtail, protecting them? Was he trying to scare Malfoy and his two huge friends away?
Goyle had finally, after a long while of him whining in pain, gotten rid of Scabbers on his finger, and he had hit the window, and seemed to be immediately knocked out.
Right after that, the three boys scattered away.
Suddenly, they heard more footsteps. It was Hermione.
"What's going on here?" She asked.
She saw candies on the floor, and Ron, how he's holding Scabbers by his tail.
"I think he got hit with a knockout," Ron told Harry. He looked closer at Scabbers and his eyes widened in disbelief, "no, - you've got to be kidding - he's sleeping again."
Is he really?
"How do you know Malfoy?"
Harry had told him about how he had met Malfoy in Diagon Alley.
"I've heard about their family," Ron said, disgusted, "they were the first ones who returned to us after You-Know-Who had disappeared. They told that they were bewitched. But dad doesn't believe that. He thinks that no one can be forgiven after they willingly go to dark side." Ron then turned to someone else, "Can we help you?"
Harry turned to see to who Ron was talking to. It was Hermione. Why does he always forget there are other people there when they are?!
"You should rather hurry and quickly put on your habits, I went to the conductor and he told me we'll be there soon. I hope you weren't fighting? You could get into problems because of it!" She said.
"Scabbers was fighting, not us," Ron frowned, "and be so polite, and leave, so we could change clothes!"
"Alright - I came here only because other kids are acting very childish , and run up-and-down the halls." Hermione said loftily, "Anyway you have a dirt on your nose, right there, do you know about it?"
Ron disbelievingly stared at Hermione. Harry just absent-mindedly stared out of the window.
Both him and Ron changed, from hoodies to habits.
"In five minutes we'll arrive to Hogwarts. Please, leave the luggage in the train, we'll transport it separately to school for you." The voice that had sounded in the whole train, had said.
Harry and Ron, who was very pale in his face, had stuffed all of the candies left in their pockets and they got to the overfilled hall of the train.
The train started visibly slowing down.
After it had fully stopped, everyone started getting out.
Once they were out, Harry breathed in the cold air.
Suddenly Hagrid called out, "Firs' years! Firs' years, tha's me! Everythin' alright there, Harry, eh?"
Harry nodded.
"C'mon now, follow me, tha's right." Hagrid resumed to face all of the first years again. "Any more firs' years? Watch yer step now! Firs' year behind me!"
The staircase to the black lake was just as slippery as Harry remembers. As soon as they saw Hogwarts all of Harry's classmates had let out a sound of awe, but Harry hasn't (nobody seemed to notice it).
"Jus' four to a boat, mind!" Hagrid yelled at everyone, as soon as they arrived to the black lake.
Just like the last time, Harry was in the boat with Hermione, Ron and Neville.
"Everyone in, are yeh?" Hagrid called out, who had a boat just for himself due to his size, "Right then - let's get a move on!"
At that exact moment all of the boats began to move.
When they had arrived to the other side, all of the boats had stopped.
Once everyone was out, Hagrid began checking all of the boats.
"Oi! You there! Ain' that yer toad?"
"Trevor!" Neville cheerfully called out and reached for him.
Afterwards everyone began to walk behind Hagrid.
"Is everyone accounted fer? Oi, you, got yer toad?" Hagrid called out, "Good on ya!"
Then he raised his huge fist and knocked three times with it on the gigantic gate.
